Australia allows import of Pakistani mangoes

KARACHI: Australia has finally allowed import of mangoes from Pakistan after ensuing that the fruit will meet all quality standards set by its quarantine and agriculture department, an exporter said on Thursday.

“Australia has approved importing mangoes from Pakistan during Eid holidays (August 8-10),” Abdul Qadeer Durrani, chief executive officer of Durrani Associates, said.

Five NY Firms Charged With Importing Toxic Toys From China. The children’s scooters imported into the United States from China by ZY Wholesale Inc. may have looked like ordinary scooters and basketball sets like ordinary basketball sets but federal prosecutors in Brooklyn said today they contained high levels of lead and toxic chemicals.

ZY Wholesale’s owner, Chenglan Hu, is one of five New York City-based importers charged with illegally bringing hazardous and counterfeit toys into the country.

Cheap fruit and veg import battle

The battle against cheap imports has flared as new data shows processed fruit and veggies make up a large portion of food imports.

New Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry data showed processed fruit and vegetables, including frozen vegetables, potato chips and canned goods, contributed to 15 per cent of total food imports between 2010 and 2012.
